Since I posted my last blog entry, it hasn’t rained a drop any more. Yesterday it was even the case that I was committed to the sun. This rare phenomenon caused another rare phenomenon: I saw cyclists. Thus, I thought about buying a bike again. Fatefully someone told me about the “bike station”. A place, where you can get cheap bikes. People, who do not need their bikes any more give it to that station, the people there fix it and sell it to very cheap prices to unemployed, poor or whatever people without much money. On Saturday from 10:30am till 16:30pm, they sell adult bikes, and on Sunday kids bikes. Now you can guess, when I will have a bike
.
Today, I will meet my Director of Studies. He will give me advice for my course choice. I have alreadly chosen my courses, but hopefully he will give me the green light to those that are not delivered by the department, I am enroled for
. These are “Origins and Evolution of Language”, “1st Language Acquisition”, “Gene expression in development”, “Psychology of Language Learning” and “Introduction to Sociolinguistics”. Then, there are courses at the School of Informatics, which are in general not open to Visiting Students like me: “Bioinformatics” and “Information Processing in Biological Cells”.
I am already allowed to attend “Cognitive Neuroscience of Language”, “Theories of Mind” and “Genetic Algorithms and Genetic Programming”.
Ok, as you might have noticed, this amount of courses is really to high for one semester. Here, students usually take 3 courses, since one course gives in general 20 credits and 60 credits per semester are standard. Among my chosen courses, there are some which are only 10 worth. Thus, I will probably take more than 3. However, 20 credits in Edinburgh are’nt 20 credits in ECTS, but only 10.
Since I am still in a youth hostel, I shouldn’t waste my time with blog entries. Have a nice time….

Hi Katha!
First of all, the standards of they tell you about — how many courses to take etc. — are really sth. you should keep in mind.
Don’t overdo it, especially not since you surely want some
time for yourself, to discover the country and get to know the people.
Yeah, it’s really me who writes those lines, believe it!
Second, the bike will be an enormous improvement for your quality of life!!
Happy RoomSearch!
Lena
Lena is right, as always i suppose.
Especially with the bike!
Good luck with your room!
